Thousands of monkeys are still in US primate research centers. The book introduces readers to some of the monkeys Lindsay met—including Omelet, Mango, Ralph, Scarlet, and Bo—and to the people working inside the system around them.
The story doesn't end with the book. Some of what's inside points to sendmarshmallows.com, a campaign that launched with the book. Send Marshmallows gives people a way to send the monkeys a treat and a note—and ask the seven US primate research centers for what no treat can provide: a future beyond the lab.
